Th Finnish National Museum is the church-like building one cannot miss when driving into the Helsinki downtown area on Mannerheimintie. It is one of its kind as most National Museums in Europe are either archaelogical, ethnographic or historical-our Kansallismuseo/Nationalmuseet is all of those. The famous trio Saarinen, Gesellius and Lindgren finished their work in 1915. The frescos in the entrance lobby ceiling are of a later date, but neverthelesss by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, the same frescos he had painted in the ceiling of the Finnish Pavillion in the World Expo in Paris 1900. This is my favourite: Ilmarinen kyntää kyisen pellon. The vipers in the field he is ploughing are symbolic, indeed
